The City, teamed with Merritt Paulson, owner of the Portland Timbers and minor-league baseball team Portland Beavers proposed to turn Jeld Wen field (formerly Civic Stadium and PGE Park) into an all soccer stadium. This would have required the Beavers to relocate to a new stadium. The City/Paulson team proposed to move the Beavers to a new stadium in the Rose Quarter and team with the Portland Blazers/Vulcan Development (Paul Allen's development company) for a new sports/entertainment district. Their scheme demolished Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
